The Department of State plans to strengthen its efforts to ensure and project the social media of those who request visas of visitors to students and exchanges to ensure that the applicants do not represent a national security threat to the United States, has known Fox News Digital.
To do it, the State Department temporarily suspends the new interviews with student and exchange visits, as it evaluates social media projections for the application process.
The effort is the last initiative of the Trump administration to be reduced to immigration and revoking visas of the attendees of the Academic Institutions of the United States. Those who have publicly supported Palestine have faced greater scrutiny and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in May that the administration was reviewing the status of the students’ visa who participated in pro-palestine protests.
The Trump administration has accused students who have participated in these protests to support Hamas: a designated foreign terrorist organization.
The State Department is currently examining the existing operations that are introduced in the projection and review of student and exchange visa applications, and “based on this review, it plans to issue orientations on social networks extended for all these applicants”, according to an email on Tuesday obtained by Fox News Digital.

As a result, the State Department indicates that the consular sections are stopped by adding any additional capacity of visa for students or visitors until more guidelines are published, “in preparation for an expansion of screening and the revision of the required social networks,” said the email.
“The next step is for publications to evaluate the operations and processes in preparation for this revision of the extended social networks of all the applicants for visits of the students and exchange (F, M, J),” said the email.
“The already scheduled appointments can proceed according to current guidelines,” the email said. “However, the appointments available, but not taken from the release of this cable, must be immediately eliminated from availability.”

Email does not specify which additional steps would be involved in the process of screening of strictest social networks, but says that consular offices have been instructed to send certain applicants for visitors and exchange visits to the Fraud Prevention Unit for “compulsory social network control”.
The State Department did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital Comment request on what the existing social media policy is for applicants.
In the meantime, Rubio told the legislators on May 20 that he hopes that the State Department has already removed thousands of visas since January after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. This is the 300 that the administration had revoked at the end of March.
Rubio also said that his agency would continue to cause students’ visas, saying that a visa is not a right, it is a “privilege”.
“I do not know the most recent count, but we probably have more to do,” Rubio told the Senate Senate Subcommittee legislators that supervise foreign affairs. “We will continue to revoke the visas of people who are here as guests and are disturbing our higher education facilities.”
Democrats, meanwhile, have said that Trump’s administration’s efforts to revoke visas is a violation of the due process.
“I think it is a fundamental attack on freedom, because the process is the tutor of the door to prevent a government from taking away people’s life or freedom, and freedom is what happens when a visa is removed without a due process,” said Senator Jeff Merkley, in Rubio on May 20.
A student visa allows outside the United States to study in the country for a specific time at an academic institution. Instead, a green card allows a person who is already in the United States who is not a north -American citizen to remain in the country.

The effort of the State Department aligns with the executive orders that Trump signed in January to protect the United States from foreign terrorists and other national security threats, as well as one who seeks to combat anti -Semitism, said a senior state official in Fox News Digital.

One of the executive orders indicates to the State Department, as well as the National Security Department, the Attorney General and the Director of National Intelligence, to “ veto and to the maximum possible all the aliens who are intended to be admitted, enter or are already within the United States, particularly those other people from regions or nations with identified security risks ”.
In addition, the other executive order states that the United States will use “all the legal tools available and appropriate, to persecute, eliminate or maintain themselves otherwise to take into account the authors of illegal anti-Semitic harassment and violence”.
